The future of House Targaryen might change forever with this Game of Thrones theory

Paul Moore

Very interesting.

“A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing” –  Maester Aemon.

Ok, we’re going to spoil the latest theory. Pythagoras has proven that the square of the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. Oh, you wanted a Game of Thrones theory about Daenerys? Step this way.

As always, spoilers are coming.

Aside from that superb feat from the Night King and the countless other incidents of madness that unfolded ‘Beyond the Wall‘, there were a few quieter moments when the writers indulged Game of Thrones fans with one of their favourite things, foreshadowing.

You don’t need to be a Maester to know that the issue of children, succession and lineage came to the fore during the most recent episode.

Jon Snow offered Longclaw back to Jorah Mormont because he felt the sword belonged on Bear Island. Jorah refused Jon’s offer before adding “may it serve you well & your children after you”

In Dragonstone, Daenerys got visibly angry at Tyrion when he mentioned the issue of her successor to the Iron Throne – should Dany die in combat.

Finally, the Mother of Dragons made it very clear to Jon Snow that she cannot have any children.

“The dragons are my children,” she told him, mourning Viserion’s death. “They’re the only children I’ll ever have. Do you understand?”

Cast your mind back to the earlier seasons and that harrowing moment when Daenerys’ loses her son Rhaego due to blood magic.

After entering the tent with Mirri Maz Duur, the vindictive witch/Lhazareen godswife got her revenge on Khal Drogo by leaving him in a vegetative state and taking the blood price of Daenerys’ unborn child in an act of retribution for Drogo’s attack on her people.

In the finale of Season 1, Daenerys walks through Drogo’s funeral pyre and emerges with her dragons.

“Only death can pay for life,” the witch tells Dany. Drogo dies and the dragons are born.

Daenerys is the Mother of Dragons and after the Night King turned Viserion into an ice dragon, it’s fair to say that her ‘child’ is now dead.

After losing one of her dragons, does this now mean that Dany can have a child?

While this point may appear to be somewhat trivial, it’s amplified by the fact that the most recent episode made a point to discuss the issue of children and legacy.

It’s also worth noting that things are heating up between Jon and Daenerys because that scene in the boat was brimming with chemistry between the two.

Only Game of Thrones can make an audience excited about the idea of an aunt and her nephew having sex! Dragon riders indeed.

If this theory proves to be correct, Maester Aemon would be very pleased to hear the idea that there might be another Targareyn in the world.
