The first trailer for the Purge TV series promises yet more murder and mayhem

“Let the fun begin”

The Purge franchise is kicking back into gear in a big way, with the fourth film in the series – The First Purge, so that’ll be a prequel, then – set for release on, but of course, the fourth of July.

And that’s not all. In the works for some time, the TV adaption is set to hit the small screen on 4 September, headed up by American networks USA and SyFy.

The 10-part television version will centre on the character of Miguel, a US Marine who returns home on Purge Night after receiving a cryptic message from his sister.

From there, you can expect chaos to ensue. If you’re unfamiliar with the Purge storyline; it all revolves around a 12-hour period where all crime, including murder, is legal.

The first film in the Blumhouse-produced series arrived in 2013, presenting a home invasion story in which Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey were terrorised by mask-wearing psychopaths, among others.

From there, the franchise expanded the world, bringing in Frank Grillo’s grizzled vigilante for a couple of adventures set against a backdrop of a burning America.

And now, the official TV series will focus on several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city, all with a totalitarian political party pulling the garrotte wire strings in the background.

The first trailer is here, and you can check it out below before the show debuts this autumn.
