The creator of The Wire has a new show about porn and it looks great

Paul Moore

This could be the best new TV show of the year.

A man must have a code and in the case of David Simon, it’s the necessity to create some outstanding TV.

Well, that might not be the exact words that the Emmy award winning writer and producer might choose, but it’s 100% true as seen by his amazing body of work.

Given that The Wire is one of – if not THE – greatest TV show of all time, Simon has since followed up the Baltimore epic up with Generation Kill, Treme and Show Me A Hero.

Any new show on HBO is reason to celebrate, but in The Deuce, Simon has amassed a cast that’s as impressive as any major Hollywood film.

In the series, James Franco plays twin brothers Vincent and Frankie Martino, who both get involved with the mob as the events cover the rise of the porn industry in 1970s New York.

Elsewhere, Maggie Gyllenhaal plays a sex worker who gets into the new porn industry.

In a  recent interview with Variety, Simon described the series by saying : “It’s roughly based on the story of the actual people who were there, some of the people that were the pioneers when pornography came out of the brown paper bag and became an open industry. Suddenly, a lucrative and provocative industry came out of nowhere soon to become a billion-dollar industry and a culture [impacting] right down to commercials to sell beer that became more and more overt right down to the sex education of a twelve-year-old with a laptop.”

HBO have released the first trailer ahead of its premiere on June 10th.

If The Deuce is even half as good as Simon’s previous work then we’re in for a treat.

Drugs, violence and Five-O! It’s like we’re back with McNulty, Bunk and Stringer Bell.
