Terrifier 3 has just been released in cinemas around the world, but in a shock move, the franchise has announced plans for a new ‘blood-soaked’ video game inspired by the series.
The horror film franchise is an iconic series that terrifies most viewers, and the third instalment is no different the previous two films in the series.
Plans for the retro game known as Terrifier: The ARTcade Game have been unveiled and it is expected to be released in 2025.
Players will take on the role of Art the Clown from the series as he attempts to destroy movie sets where the films about his horrific acts are being filmed.
In a similar fashion to the films, players will go on a bloodthirsty rampage, coming up against enemies such as the police, law enforcement camera operators and makeup artists.
The press release states the character “disrupts movie sets where films about his own gruesome acts are being shot. Instead of letting the cameras capture the staged terror, Art brings his own brand of real chaos, tearing through hordes of policemen, firewomen, camera operators, stunt performers, makeup artists, and even unsuspecting civilians.”
The animation style draws influence from arcade games released in the 80s and 90s and will also feature a multiplayer mode which allows up to four players.
An arsenal of weapons designed to increase the carnage will also be available.
Fans of the horror franchise have questioned the decision to make it an arcade-style game.
Given the graphic content of the films, an 8-bit style pixel version may detract from what makes the films so successful.
However, retro-style arcade games have been making a major comeback over the past few years.
Developers simply state the title is set to launch on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2025 with no formal release date announced.
