Selena Gomez’s mum isn’t happy about her daughter’s new film – and tried to talk her out of it

Selena Gomez's mum has revealed she tried to warn her against working with Woody Allen - but that her advice "fell on deaf ears".

The Wolves singer is set to star in the filmmaker's upcoming movie, A Rainy Day In New York alongside Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning, Jude Law, Diego Luna, Rebecca Hall and Liev Schreiber. Hall and Chalamet have since pledged to donate their salaries from the movie to charity, including the Time's Up movement. Many of Selena's fans were saddened to work with the 82-year-old director on the film, after allegations that he sexually molested his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow when she was seven years old resurfaced last year. Allen has always denied the allegations. The actress-singer's fans have been reaching out to her, as well as her family and her team, for months - urging her to apologise for choosing to work with him. Selena's mum, Mandy Teefey, responded to one of them on Tuesday morning. A follower urged her to "make Selena write an apology about the Woody Allen film.” But Mandy, who is alleged to have fallen out with her daughter over her rekindled relationship with Justin Bieber, revealed that while she "had a long talk" with Selena about not making the film, it didn't "click". She wrote:

“Sorry, no one can make Selena do anything she doesn’t want to do. “I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn’t click. Her team are amazing people. “There is no fall person here. No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears.”

The actress admitted last year that she was "not sure" how to respond to the criticism she was facing over her decision to work with Woody Allen. She was asked about the director's past, and if it was something she considered before she signed on to the film. She told Billboard: 

“To be honest, I’m not sure how to answer – not because I’m trying to back away from it. "[The Harvey Weinstein allegations] actually happened right after I had started [on the movie]. They popped up in the midst of it. “And that’s something, yes, I had to face and discuss. I stepped back and thought, ‘Wow, the universe works in interesting ways.'”
