The game starred two aliens that just so happened to have a penchant for hip-hop and funk. It had a fantastic soundtrack and was doing procedurally generated levels before they were even a thing. Progressive and funky.
The series did return on the Xbox for 2002's ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth, but fans have been waiting a long time for a game that recaptures the spirit of the original games.
Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove looks like it could just be that game. Adult Swim are publishing the title, which is pencilled in for a 2017 console and PC release, and the new trailer features the first glimpse of gameplay footage.
It's looking ace.
