A brand new trailer hints at plenty of scandal in Season 2 of The Crown on Netflix

Returning in early December.

“There is no possibility of my forgiving you. The question is ‘how on Earth can you forgive yourself?’”

It might not have generated the attention commanded by shows such as House of Cards or Stranger Things, but the first season of The Crown was the subject of plenty of deserved praise last year.

A Netflix original series and based on the award-winning play, The Audience, The Crown tells the inside story of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, as the fragile social order established after the Second World War breaks apart.

Having covered Elizabeth’s ascension to power and how it affected her relationship with Prince Phillip and the controversy that developed over a relationship between Princess Margaret and an Air Force Captain in Season One, Season Two ushers in the revolutionary era of the 1960s.

Beginning with soldiers in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces fighting an illegal war in Egypt, and ending with the downfall of her third Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, after a devastating scandal, the second season bears witness to the end of the age of deference.

Continuing a theme explored in Season One, meanwhile, there’s also plenty of hints at the trouble caused by Phillip’s extracurricular activities and his struggle to deal with his status in the Royal Family.

The second season of The Crown looks like it will be well worth a watch and will be released on Netflix on Friday, December 8.
