Sam Mendes' new war epic 1917 has stunned audiences since hitting cinema screens, with its one-take style and fraught tone lending to the praise that the film has received for its depiction of war.
The film depicts two soldiers who are handed seemingly impossible orders to cross into enemy territory and help save thousands of their comrades, and is based in part on a story told to the director by his grandfather.
Ahead of the Oscars, two soldiers sat down to interview Mendes and some of the stars of the film to discuss it, the realities of war and the emotional impact it leaves on people.
