It all started with Iron Man in 2008. 10 years, 18 films and billions of dollars later, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally reaching some sort of a denouement with Avengers: Infinity War.
Of course, that's not actually where it all started. Our current obsession with these characters has roots much further back than the first time Robert Downey Jnr suited up. You have to go all the way back to 1961, with the publication of Fantastic Four #1. What started out as an attempt to piggyback off the success of DC's superhero team, the Justice League of America, became a beloved brand in its own right.
Then came Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk and X-Men along with dozens of others.
And the man behind these iconic characters, Stan Lee of course.
Today's filmmakers haven't forgotten the guy who created the sandbox they're currently playing in. Thanks to a cameo in almost every Marvel movie, the creator is as iconic as his characters.
If you expand beyond just the 18 MCU films, there's been a whole bunch of movies based on Marvel characters from other studios. That adds up to a lot of appearances for the man himself.
Think you're a Marvel fan? Then how about identifying the movies from the Stan Lee's cameo in them. It's trickier than you'd think, while some of Stan's appearances are memorable, others are more fleeting.
