tarantino axes final film, the movie critic

Tarantino has changed his mind on the movie

Quentin Tarantino has scrapped The Movie Critic as his final film, having ‘changed his mind’ on the project.

The Movie Critic was set to be the legendary director’s 10th and final film, with Brad Pitt starring in the main role.

This would have been the third time Tarantino and Pitt would have teamed up, after the actor starred in Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

However, Deadline reports that Tarantino has decided to drop the film.

According to the outlet, Sony was ready to make the film and Tarantino had rewritten the script. But the American director has now decided that, whatever his final film is, it won’t be The Movie Critic.

The 61-year-old simply had a change of heart around the movie and won’t be working on it anymore.

Sources close to him told Deadline he is going back to the drawing board to think of another film that he can finish his film career with.

Last year, it was reported that Pitt would be featuring in The Movie Critic, and that filming would start in 2024.

Speaking at Cannes in May last year, Tarantino said the film would be set in California in 1977 and is “based on a guy who really lived but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.”

But it doesn’t sound like we’ll ever get any more insight into the project than that, unless the filmmaker has another change of heart.

If he did, this wouldn’t be the first time he’d U-turned on a U-turn. Back in 2014, he scrapped The Hateful Eight after a rough draft of the script was leaked by an actor.

However, Tarantino eventually followed through with the project when he staged a reading for charity and it was well-received.

The Hateful Eight ended up being released in December 2015, and received largely positive reviews.

Tarantino’s last film was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which was released in 2019 to critical acclaim.

He has long said that he plans to make just 10 films before retiring, so that he can maintain the same high quality across all his films.
