Piers Morgan calls Love Island contestants 'most stupid people in the world'
Public intellectual Piers Morgan dislikes many things in this life
Arsene Wenger, hosting a successful American television show, Kim Kardashian taking her clothes off - the list is a long one - and now we can finally add Love Island to that ever growing list of things that get under his skin.
Discussing the hit ITV 2 show on Monday's episode of ITV's morning show Good Morning Britain, Morgan - who was appointed editor of the News of the World at the age of 29 by Rupert Murdoch - described the contestants on the reality television series as "the most stupid people in the world".
Speaking to viewers, he said: "We have had a debate about the mental abilities of those on Love Island. I think they’re the most stupid people in the world. Susanna thinks they’re moral guardians of the nation and we should all be watching."
Morgan's lovely comments follow the highly-publicised discussion between some of the women on Love Island about Brexit, which began when Georgia asked her fellow contestants: "What do you think about Brexit?"
This was followed by: "What’s that?"
And, once Brexit was explained: "welfare.. could be cut down."
And finally: "Does that mean we won’t have any trees?"
His comments also follow those of another man with his finger on the pulse of the working class plight, Giles Coren, who eviscerated the show's contestants last week as being "Naked stupid venal morally bankrupt spiritually dead actually pretty ugly young people fucking for money" and the show itself as "world-ending bullshit".
He, like Morgan, really has a way with words.
Thankfully, Morgan did face some push back from his co-host Susanna Reid, who referred to him as "snobby" for what he said.
"Here’s why I’m snobby, they are even more stupid than I thought they were."
Well, there we go.
