Netflix is reportedly developing a film sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which David Fincher (Fight Club, Mindhunter) is set to direct - not Quentin Tarantino.
Tarantino wrote and directed the original 2019 movie which is set in '60s Los Angeles and focuses on the relationship between fading Hollywood star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt).
A hit with critics, at the box office and at the Oscars (with Pitt winning Best Supporting Actor), Tarantino is clearly not done with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
He subsequently published a novelisation of the film and has revealed plans for several related projects in different mediums, including a play about Dalton working in Italy.
Now, however, multiple outlets are reporting that a Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel written by Tarantino that will focus more on Pitt's stuntman character Cliff Booth is in the works.
The Playlist, which broke the story, has also stated that the script for the follow-up evolved out of Tarantino's screenplay for The Movie Critic.
The latter was once intended by Tarantino to be the tenth and supposedly final film he would direct. However, the project was later scrapped.
Apparently, Pitt liked the script so much that he asked Tarantino if Fincher could helm the movie - with Tarantino giving his blessing.
Pitt and Fincher are frequent collaborators, having previously worked together on Seven, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
It has also been reported that the sequel is being set up at Netflix, who have long-lasting relationship with Fincher - with the filmmaker having helmed The Killer and Mank, as well as episodes of House of Cards and Mindhunter for the streaming giant.
Netflix have yet to comment on the reports about the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood follow-up and it is currently unclear how much involvement DiCaprio will have with the sequel.
