OFFICIAL: John Wick: Chapter 3 releases its very first plot details

Don't mess with his dog...

Paul Moore

The Boogeyman is back! This is going to be fantastic.

Right now, film fans around the world are eagerly anticipating Avengers: Infinity War but there’s one man that could probably kill Thanos, steal every single Infinity Stone and deliver 1,732 headshots in the process.

Oh yes! John Wick is back and with a spin-off show also on the way – we outlined exactly what we want to see in that show here – you better not get in his way. FYI to any villains or gangsters, don’t mess with his dog.

Chapter 2 expanded on the mythology of The Continental and the world of assassins, but Chapter 3 is going to be off the hook.

Chad Stahelski, who also co-directed the first film, is returning behind the lens and the plot sounds like an absolute riot.

As we all know, the action will be focused in NYC where the newly excommunicated master assassin (Keanu Reeves) has to try to stay alive and fight his way out of the city without any of the Continental resources at his disposal.

The promo was unveiled at CinemaCon below and here’s what’s in store.

“John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.”

Ok, it seems that John Wick 3 isn’t going to be as international as Chapter 2 but we’re really pumped for Chapter 3. Is anyone else imagining a mix of John Wick’s crazy gunplay, the classic SEGA game Streets of Rage and Arnie in Commando? Yep, it’s going to be amazing!

In a previous interview with Collider, Stahelski said that he always wanted to move the action back to the New York-based roots of the original John Wick film.

“We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world… I feel like there are all these different subtleties that I skipped over in Number Two, that I’d like to go back to on [chapter three] and show you the inner workings of different parts of New York. So rather than massive set pieces, I’d like to show you cooler and more intricate ones… I think it would be a mistake budget wise and creatively to just go big and blow up a freeway. That’s not our gig. That’s a comic book or a Bond gig. We want to show you cool and intricate details. What are those little details in everyday life? Hopefully – we make people look at garbage collectors and cleaner vans and homeless people a little differently now.”

In terms of the cast, there’s going to be some returning folk, including Chapter 2 highlights Lawrence Fishburne, Common and Ruby Rose, but the main bad-guy will be played by Hiroyuki Sanada.

Just like his Matrix reunion with Fishburne in the second movie, Sanada previously shared the screen with Reeves in Ronin 47.

Sanada has also been in blockbusters like The Wolverine, Sunshine, The Last Samurai, Life and will also be seen in Avengers 4, in a currently undisclosed role.
