Netflix Madeleine McCann documentary due to launch this month

A documentary about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is due to be aired on Netflix this month. It will feature unseen interviews with those involved in the case but none with Kate and Gerry McCann, who it is reported refused to take part. Producers approached the couple and their friends but none were involved in the mini-series, which will be released ahead of the 12 year anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance. The documentary cost a reported £20 million to make and will be composed of several episodes. A friend of the McCanns told MailOnline: "We understand it is a serialised drama but neither Kate, Gerry nor their holiday friends and main players have co-opertated in any shape or form. And we have no idea who the actors are. We believe it is coming out very soon, within the next two weeks and before the next anniversary. "Netflix had been hoping to screen it last year but the project took them a lot longer than expected. They had been wanting to string it out over eight episodes but it may now be a one or two parter." Earlier this month, Scotland Yard asked the Home Office for another year's worth of funding towards the ongoing search for Madeleine. Just three months ago, the Home Office were reported to have granted the police an additional £150,000 to fund the search, which was intended to last six months. But in half that time, they are reported to be requesting more funding towards the 12 year long search that has already cost £11.75 million. In 2013, the Met took it upon themselves to begin 'Operation Grange', dissatisfied with the lack of progress that Portuguese police had made on the case.
