There was meant to be a very surprising love triangle in Game of Thrones

Bizarre.

Game of Thrones almost featured another love triangle - and it's not one we expected. The idea was initially seen in George R. R. Martin's original outline to editors for the Song of Ice and Fire series. Weiss and David Benioff are intent on making sure they hit the mark on some of the ideas in the proposal - just in a slightly roundabout way. And while we don't think this will happen in the last nine episodes of Game of Thrones, we're going to put in a cautionary spoiler/speculation warning. Just in case. It turns out the Game of Thrones maestro meant for Arya to be caught up in a love triangle with Tyrion and Jon. Things in the letter stick pretty close to Tyrion's original arc...before taking a pretty drastic turn. The pitch suggests:

"Exiled, Tyrion will change sides, making common cause with the surviving Starks to bring his brother down, and falling helplessly in love with Arya Stark while he’s at it. His passion is, alas, unreciprocated, but no less intense for that, and it will lead to a deadly rivalry between Tyrion and Jon Snow."
