Viewers thought she suffered an unfortunate slip of the tongue

Maya Jama has responded to claims that she ‘swore’ during her appearance on Saturday Night Takeaway.

The Love Island presenter was the Star Guest Announcer on the hugely popular ITV show, hosted by Ant and Dec.

One of the acts on Saturday’s edition was a performance from the cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang On Tour.

However, when Jama teased their appearance aft viewers thought she suffered an unfortunate slip of the tongue.

It sounded like Jama said ‘sh***y’, with the 29-year-old admitting to the camera: “Oh gosh! That was close!”

The moment didn’t go unnoticed by viewers at home, with one person writing on X: “Maya Jama trying not to say Sh**ty Sh**ty Bang Bang.”

Another asked: “Why can’t Maya say Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?”

A third said: “Maya is fully just saying Sh***y Sh***ty Bang Bang every time.”

Jama has since taken to X to insist that she was in fact not swearing live on national TV, but admitted it did sound “close.”

She wrote in a post: “I actually swear to God I’m saying chitty. It just sounds sooo close.”

This will be the last series of Saturday Night Takeaway before it is put on pause.

Ant and Dec revealed the show would be going on a hiatus so that the pair can “spend some time” with family.

Ant told Fault magazine: “Part of the reason we’re pausing Takeaway is we need a break ourselves, and we need to spend some time with our family. We’ve both got children that we need to spend time with for a little bit.

“We need time to think and, and time to step back and look at the bigger picture and just see where we are now,” he added.

“Like I say, we’re turning 49, and what do we want to do next? What’s the next phase of our career?” he added, “And we’ve got lots of ideas and lots of offers on the table, lots of options of things we can do. But it’s working on what we do next and where the next chapter begins. So that’s what we’re gonna do when SNT is out of the way. We’ll sit down, take a bit of time, and re-evaluate everything.”
