MAFS UK’s George Roberts shares cryptic post as three exes make ‘abuse’ claims

Roberts’ wife April Banbury has said her head is ‘spinning’ over the allegations

Married at First Sight UK star George Roberts has reshared a fans post claiming he should have been matched with Gemma Rose as he’s become engulfed in an abuse scandal.

The divorced dad-of-four married former Ms Great Britain, April Banbury, after they met at the altar for the first time on the Channel 4 show – but the 33-year-old has since admitted she is in therapy after the “traumatic relationship”, MailOnline reports.

It has also since come to light that Roberts, 40, was allowed to take part in the E4 show despite three of her former partners telling police they had suffered “emotional abuse”.

The trio are said to have complained after seeing trailers for the show, with The Sun reporting that they alleged “obsessive”, “manipulative” and “abusive” behaviour.

Rose, who was married to Matt Murray on the show and has slammed E4 for the way she has been portrayed, took part in a Q&A with her Instagram followers and one fan suggested that Roberts or PJ – Dreamboys dancer Pjay –  would have been “better suited to you”.

She responded: “A George and PJ sandwich,” while tagging the boys in the post.

Roberts was quick to repost it with a crying laughing face emoji and a heart despite Banbury revealing she has been struggling since filming the programme.

She recently suggested the relationship was over between her and Roberts and told her social media followers she was in therapy after appearing on the dating show.

In response to the allegations against Roberts, a Channel 4 spokesperson told JOE: “We work incredibly closely with our production partners to ensure all Married at First Sight UK contributors are subject to rigorous background and psychological checks, including the most detailed police checks a production is able to undertake.

“Any allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously by Channel 4.”

The three women that complained about Roberts said they were “horrified” to learn he had been selected for the show.

Each of them said they had independently made a complaint to police and alleged they had been “love-bombed” before the relationship became “coercive”.

The trio said they raised concerns with Channel 4, flagging his alleged “abusive”, “obsessive” and “manipulative” behaviour towards women.

A show source said that they were not aware of allegations against Roberts before he married Banbury on the television show, MailOnline reported. It is not clear whether filming for the show, including their wedding, had happened, when the women complained to the network, the publisher reported.

“I’m so shocked to see he has been given a platform on a TV show. I messaged Married at First Sight. I said I reported him to the police,” one of his ex-girlfriends told The Sun.

“They asked for additional information which I gave and I never heard anything further.”

A second ex-partner said that they reached out to All4, E4 and Married At First Sight directly, alleging that Roberts “was a known emotional and mental abuser”.

The third ex partner said they were told the claims would be looked into.

Roberts and Banbury honeymooned in the Caribbean where the relationship quickly hit the rocks after Banbury kissed a girl in a spa pool.

Over the weekend, Banbury described on Instagram how she had suffered “traumas” from appearing on the TV show.

“The traumas that have been brought on from this show have made me re-evaluate things,” she wrote.

“I really have and I’m not ashamed to admit, I have been seeing a therapist ever since.”

She told The Sun that her head was “spinning” after hearing about the allegations.
