As reported previously, Neil Cross is a very busy man because the creator of Luther has just launched his new show on the BBC, Hard Sun to very positive reviews - that opening attack really took us off guard!
While promoting his new show, the talk inevitably turned to everyone's favourite detective and after a new season was announced - we're also promised that it's going to be the 'biggest' one yet - Cross was asked about the fate of one particular character.
In Season 4, Rose Leslie (more famously known as Ygritte in Game of Thrones) played Emma Jones, the newest recruit to the Serious and Serial Unit. Throughout the series, she worked alongside DCI Luther as he tried to a cannibal serial killer.
In an interview with Radio Times, Cross was asked if the actress would be returning for the next season and he said: "Actually no,” declining to elaborate on his reasons why.
As for the fate of a certain redheaded serial killer, Cross was also asked about the chances of Alice Morgan returning to the show.
“I better not answer these questions, Cross laughed. "I will say that he’s got his coat. And that I’ll keep writing Luther until Idris or I drop off the perch.”
Yeah, we're pretty confident that Alice will be back.
