Jordan Henderson confirmed as FIFA 16 cover star

JOE

A good week for Jordan Henderson has got even better, with the announcement that he will feature on the cover of FIFA 16.

The Liverpool and England midfielder was named as the new captain of his club this week, succeeding Steven Gerrard, and will now join Lionel Messi on the cover of the game’s UK edition.

Remarkably, Henderson is the first Liverpool player to ever feature on the cover of the EA Sports game, after seeing off the competition of Sergio Aguero, Thibaut Courtois and Harry Kane in a public vote.

Speaking of his pride at the news, the 25-year-old said: “The support I’ve had from fans around the world over the past few weeks, particularly Liverpool supporters, has been overwhelming. It’s great to realise every young footballer’s dream and I’m grateful to everyone who voted”.

Henderson’s success followed the very public backing of a worldwide sports star – NBA player LeBron James called on his own fans to vote for Henderson, saying: “James gang always reps LFC on the virtual pitch”.

Now it’s time for Henderson to keep his promise and do the Sturridge dance…
