Jonah Hill looks unrecognisably slim in new Netflix trailer

James Dawson

Maniac also stars Emma Stone

Jonah Hill being thin is hardly breaking news in 2018, in fact, he’s been looking slim for the last few years. That said, it’s fair to say that he’s looking particularly trim in the new trailer for his upcoming Netflix show.

Emma Stone and Jonah Hill will star in Maniac and the first teaser sees the two of them staring blankly at each other. “There’s no reason to believe that anything about us can’t be changed. The mind can be solved,” says a voiceover in the teaser, confirming that the show will, 100%, be a complete and utter mindfuck.

All ten episodes of the series are directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who was also responsible for the first season of HBO’s True Detective. It will see a full release on 21 September.

But with it being a Jonah Hill film, naturally, the main focus is on how much weight he’s lost for the role, which is actually quite a lot.

Watch the teaser and see for yourself here:

A synopsis of the show states: “Set in a world somewhat like our world, in a time quite similar to our time, Maniac tells the stories of Annie Landsberg (Emma Stone) and Owen Milgrim (Jonah Hill), two strangers drawn to the late stages of a mysterious pharmaceutical trial, each for their own reasons,” the synopsis states.

“Annie’s disaffected and aimless, fixated on broken relationships with her mother and her sister; Owen, the fifth son of wealthy New York industrialists, has struggled his whole life with a disputed diagnosis of schizophrenia.

“Neither of their lives has turned out quite right, and the promise of a new, radical kind of pharmaceutical treatment—a sequence of pills its inventor, Dr. James K. Mantleray (Justin Theroux), claims can repair anything about the mind, be it mental illness or heartbreak—draws them and 10 other strangers to the facilities of Neberdine Pharmaceutical and Biotech for a three-day drug trial that will, they’re assured, with no complications or side effects whatsoever, solve all of their problems, permanently. Things do not go as planned.”

Looks like it’s going to be a good’un.
