Joey Barton reportedly offered half a million to appear on I’m A Celebrity

How good would this be?

It appears that Dennis Wise might not have been the only combative midfielder in the jungle because various outlets have reported that Joey Barton was approached by the I’m a Celebrity producers to appear on the reality TV show.

It’s claimed that the former Man City, Newcastle United and Burnley midfielder turned down an offer of £500,000 – a record appearance fee for the show – to enter the jungle.

The report states that Barton was being lined up by the producers to appear on I’m A Celebrity after doubts were raised about Amir Khan’s availability but any deal stalled after the former England international asked for £1m to appear on the show.

A source has been quoted as saying: “Joey would be I’m A Celebrity gold. He isn’t afraid to speak his mind and very rarely walks away from a row. He would’ve been brilliant and producers have tried to get him before. But with him serving a ban, they thought they’d tempt him with a massive offer. It’s more than they’ve ever offered anyone before.”

At present, Barton is serving an 18-month ban from football and he’s also doing punditry work for talkSPORT.
