James Bond producer says ‘whiteness is not a given’ with next Bond actor

Charlie Herbert

The next Bond actor will ‘offer something new and different’

The next James Bond actor will be in his 30s and will not necessarily be white, according to producer Barbara Broccoli.

The question of who will be the next James Bond has swirled around the world of film ever since Daniel Craig – spoiler warning – fell on his sword in No Time To Die.

The likes of Henry Cavill, Idris ElbaRegé-Jean PageTom HollandCillian Murphy and Eddie Horniman have all been linked with the role, but we’re still none the wiser as to who the next person to be given a license to kill will be.

It seemed like Craig’s replacement had been found earlier this year when reports emerged than Aaron Taylor-Johnson had been “formally offered” the role, but producers were quick to shut down the reports.

Now, Broccoli, who controls the 007 franchise alongside her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, has shed some light on what sort of actor she’s looking for in the next Bond.

According to the Associated Press, the 64-year-old said the next 007 “will be a man” and will “likely be in his 30s.”

She also said “whiteness is not a given” with the next actor, and whoever it is will need to commit to “at least a decade worth’s of films.”

Co-producer Wilson, added: “Every time we cast a new actor, the films change. It’s the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction. Every one of these people who took on the role offered something new and different.”

The Associated Press reports that Broccoli and Wilson are “staying tightlipped on even a general timeline” for when they’ll announced the next Bond.

Back in 2022, the producers spoke about what they were looking for in the next actor to take on the role, but made it clear they wouldn’t be rushing the decision.
