People will be flocking to Cornwall
A new study has revealed the most popular locations featured in ‘House of the Dragon’.
The research carried out by ARKA comes as internet searches for House of the Dragon filming locations sees a 129% increase in the last month following the launch of season two.
Cornwall’s St Michael’s Mount is the most popular location used by the HBO series with a total of 2.15 million searches, hashtags and social media mentions.
St Michael’s Mount features as Driftmark, the ancestral seat of House Velaryon in the series but was a popular tourist destination for those visiting the region prior to the show being filmed.
The main locations for the series which stars Matt Smith and Olivia Cooke are in Spain, UK and Portugal.
Second on the list of locations that has been searched for by fans is Plaza Mayor in Trujillo, Spain ranks second witha total popularity score of 1.94 million.
The historic square transformed into King’s Landing Main Square and notable scenes shot there include public events, market scenes, and various interactions among the characters.
The Old Town of Caceres came in third. It had the highest number of hashtags and social media mentions at 858k and 500k respectively. The well-preserved medieval architecture featured in several famous scenes, including Daemon and the City Watch enforcing justice.
Monsanto in Portugal, which was used for the exterior shots of Dragonstone, takes the fourth position in the list whilst rounding out the top five is another UK destination, Kynance Cove.
This Cornwall destination served as the backdrop for the Stepstones battle scenes, where Daemon Targaryen fought against the triarchy forces. There are six UK locations in the top 10.
The eight episode series debuted on HBO on June 17th with 7.8 million viewers tuning in.
