This year is shaping up to be an incredibly strong one for British directors with Edgar Wright (Baby Driver), Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk), Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) and countless other talented filmmakers from the U.K releasing their films in your local cinema.

All this without mentioning the likes of Trainspotting 2, Alien: Covenant, Free Fire and various other features that were released and are currently in production.

There’s no doubting that the British public absolutely love cinema, but 2,000 people were recently surveyed for Vue Entertainment where they they were asked to name their favourite British film, director and actor.

Well, it appears that the classics never go out of style because Peter Collinson’s stylish 1969 crime caper, The Italian Job, has taken top spot.

Who doesn’t love those Mini Cooper chases and that classic – and very definitive – cliffhanger ending?

Plus, it also gave us one of the most iconic lines in film history. That delivery is perfect!

There are some absolute belters in the top 10 because The Full Monty , Zulu (featuring one of the greatest scores ever),  Trainspotting, The Bridge on the River Kwai and Monty Python’s the Life of Brian are all included among others.

Regarding the most beloved British actors and directors, there’s plenty of love for Michael Caine and Alfred Hitchcock respectively.

Here’s a look at the films – and the filmmaking talent – that the British public adore.

Have a listen to this epic score while you browse through this list of superb films and remarkable talent.
