Here are the 11 best movies on the TV this weekend

JOE

It’s an international break in the Premier League, and the Six Nations ended last weekend. So there’s a good chance there’s a massive whole in your Saturday and Sunday viewing plans. Don’t worry though, we’ve got you covered.

If you are sitting in over the weekend, and there’s a very good chance you’ve watched everything you wanna watch on Netflix, there are 11 great (and if not great, then just great fun!) movies on TV. Here’s what we’ve circled in our hypothetical copy of Radio Times.

Kicking off with…

SATURDAY

Mrs Doubtfire – Film 4 – 18:35

Robin Williams goes full RuPaul’s Drag Race in order to secretly spend more time with his kids after his wife files for divorce.

Everest – Channel 4 – 21:00

A really brilliant cast – including Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, Keira Knightley, Robin Wright, Sam Worthington and more besides – in the true story of a number of mountain climbers who attempt to survive a severe storm at the world’s highest point.

Guardians Of The Galaxy – BBC One – 22:30

Marvel’s best movie to date? Discuss.

Zombieland – Film 4 – 22:50

Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin try to survive the zombie apocalypse together. Features a scene-stealing turn by … well, actually, if you’ve never seen it, we don’t want to spoil it for you.

Predator 2 – Channel 4 – 23:20

Arnie is replaced by one half of Lethal Weapon, in this dingier, more violent sequel which moves the action from the jungles to Downtown LA. Gary Busey also stars, which should be reason enough to watch this all by itself.

SUNDAY

A Knight’s Tale – Channel 5 – 16:45

This fun medieval comedy adventure was one of the late Heath Ledger’s early starring roles. He plays a young peasant who competes in jousting tournaments, and it is full of enjoyable anachronistic references, like Queen blasting over the soundtrack.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – Film 4 – 18:05

This is where The Hunger Games got properly good, thanks to the arrival of the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman, and a pretty great director (Francis Lawrence, no relation to Jennifer), who puts together some pretty great action sequences.

Skyfall – ITV2 – 20:00

The best Bond movie to date? Discuss.

Oblivion – Film 4 – 21:00

Tom Cruise Sci-Fi Epic #1 – in this one he is one of the last humans on Earth, attempting to make the environment safe again, but all the while having flashbacks to a much different life.

War Of The Worlds – BBC One –  22:30

Tom Cruise Sci-Fi Epic #2 – a remake of a classic, teaming up with Spielberg to tell the story of an invading alien race he want to wipe out humanity so they can take the planet for themselves.

Senna – BBC4 – 23:15

Award-winning doc on the life of one of the greatest racers who ever lived, who won the F1 world championship three times before his untimely death at the age of 34.
