Henry Cavill confirms return as Superman

Warning: Black Adam spoilers ahead

Henry Cavill is returning as the Man of Steel

Henry Cavill has confirmed that he is returning as Superman, announcing the news in a video on social media.

In a post on Instagram, Cavill shared a picture of himself in the costume followed by a message from himself, promising that there is much more to come.

He captioned the post: “A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends. The dawn of hope renewed. Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded.”

He explained that why he waited until now to confirm the news as well.

In a mid-credits from Black Adam, DC’s latest big screen offering, Cavill makes a cameo appearance as Superman and turns up to speak to Black Adam, played by Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson.

The actor explained that it was because of this top secret scene that he waited until the end of Black Adam‘s opening weekend to make the news of his return to the DC universe public.

“The image you see on this post and what you saw in Black Adam are just a very small taste of things to come,” Cavill said. “There’s a lot to be thankful for, and I’ll get to that in time, but I wanted to thank you guys most of all. Thank you for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded.”

The actor was cast as Clark Kent/Superman for 2013’s Man of Steel. He reprised the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. But since then, fans have been clamouring for his return to the role, in particular a Man of Steel sequel.

Man of Steel was the first film in DC’s interconnected cinematic universe, intended to rival Marvel’s behemoth.

But to say it’s not gone to plan would be an understatement. Whilst Man of Steel was broadly well-received, films such as Batman v Superman and Justice League were disastrous.

Since then, DC has had moderate success with films such as 2020’s Birds of Prey and 2021’s The Suicide Squad, and has just come off the back of a very impressive opening weekend for Black Adam.
