The two-time Academy Award winner stars in a double role.
The first trailer for the much-anticipated The Alto Knights gangster film starring Robert De Niro has just been released.
The screenplay was written by Goodfellas and The Irishman co-writer Nicholas Pileggi and the film was directed by Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Sleepers).
As reported by Variety, Robert De Niro stars as both mob bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello – real-life kingpins of New York’s Genovese crime family.
The film follows the story of the Italian American mafiosi in the mid-twentieth century and Genovese’s attempted hit on Costello in 1957.
Alongside De Niro stars Debra Messing as Costello’s wife Bobbie, Kathrine Narducci as Genovese’s wife Anna and Peaky Blinders star Cosmo Jarvis.
It will be the first time Robert De Niro steps into the familiar shoes of a mob boss since 2019’s The Irishman, in which he played Irish American gangster Frank Sheeran.
Speaking about the double role element, Levinson said: “It’s amazing. He’s such an astounding actor. It was literally like two different people, like I was working with two different actors.”
De Niro and Levinson previously worked together on Wag the Dog, Sleeper and The Wizard of Lies.
The Alto Knights is scheduled to hit UK cinemas on 21st March 2025.
