The first trailer for Blue Planet II has arrived and it’s absolutely breathtaking

Wow.

Conor Heneghan

A fitting taster for what will probably be the best TV you’ll see this year.

A year after Planet Earth II wowed audiences around the globe, TV viewers can look forward to another feast of educational, fascinating and visually spectacular broadcasting when Blue Planet II comes to the BBC in the near future.

A prequel to the magnificent Blue Planet that aired on the BBC in September and October in 2001, it will once again explore life beneath the waves, with narrator David Attenborough promising that new science and new technology has allowed programme-makers “to voyage further and deeper than ever before”.

As was the case with Planet Earth II, Hans Zimmer will provide the soundtrack to what is shaping up to be an epic production and he has collaborated with Radiohead for the track accompanying the first trailer for the new series, titled ‘(Ocean) Bloom’.

Take five minutes of your time to sit back and appreciate what truly is a magnificent preview of what’s in store a little later in the year above (no release date has yet been set) and when you’re done with that, check out the short documenting the making of the title track below.

We can’t wait.
