The Butcher's unveiling has been much-anticipated ever since it was revealed that Bale was attached to the project - Taika Waititi's second Thor film and third overall in this particular Marvel franchise.
As you can see, not only has the reaction been overwhelming positive - albeit perhaps a little disturbed - but many have described the drastic look as akin to the likes of Manson and even Lord Voldemort.

Without giving too much away (well, the name tells you most of what you need to know) Bale's Gorr the God Butcher is rather evidently one of the darker characters to have ever been introduced into the MCU.
Gorr, sometimes referred to as Gorr the Redeemer or the Black Butcher, only has one goal: wiping out all deities from the cosmos - a pursuit he has been chasing for thousands of years - and now, Thor is next on his list.

Writer and director Waititi had already done his part to whip up a frenzy surrounding the lesser-known character in a recent interview with AP News, where he went so far as to claim: "in my humble opinion, we have probably the best villain that Marvel’s ever had in Christian Bale.”
Big words - what do you reckon? Have we got a new Thanos on our hands?
