We’d basically watch anything that Michael B Jordan is in, to be honest
On Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that
Henry Cavill will no longer be playing Superman in any future DC movies.
The news kind of came out of nowhere, but at the same time it was not completely unexpected. Cavill’s performances as the Man of Tomorrow have generally been well received, but the films themselves –
Man of Steel,
Batman Vs Superman and
Justice League – have all been incredibly divisive, and alienated a lot of superhero fans.
Warner Bros plans for the DC movie universe going forward seems to have undergone a lot of rethinking, so some recasting is not completely out of the blue. The success of
Wonder Woman appears to have made them reconsider the ultra-dark approach pioneered by
Man of Steel director Zack Snyder, with the upcoming
Shazam looking a lot more like a family comedy than
Batman Vs Superman.
Reports suggest that Warner Bros are now focusing on a Supergirl movie, starring a teenage version of the character, and Cavill’s Superman wouldn’t fit into those plans.
A report on
Deadline says they have looked at going in a completely different direction for Superman - with
Creed star Michael B Jordan having reportedly being considered to take the role.
Michael B Jordan is, of course, one of the coolest and most exciting young actors working today. First grabbing attention as Wallace in the first season of
The Wire, he has been an incredible screen presence in movies like
Chronicle and
Fruitvale Station. He is, of course, no stranger to appearing in comic book movies, playing the Human Torch in 2015’s actually-not-that-bad
Fantastic Four, and he stole the show as Killmonger in
Black Panther.
It is important to note that Deadline points out that this is just potential option being considered for future directions the franchise could go in (“somewhere down the road” as they put it). Nothing is in development yet, so don’t expect it to happen anytime soon.
Still, consider us on-board with the idea.
