Ewan McGregor would ‘be happy’ to play Obi-Wan Kenobi again

Paul Moore

Hello there. That Star Wars spin-off is coming!

You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them!

A feeling that many Star Wars fans had after George Lucas’ much-criticised trilogy of prequels. Yep, we all had to endure talk about midichlorians, Hayden ‘I don’t like sand’ Christensen, Jar Jar ‘f**king’ Binks and countless other flaws, but there were also some very enjoyable moments in Episodes I-III.

Truth be told, the good stuff usually revolved around Ewan McGregor’s performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Nothing will ever match the love that we have for Episodes IV-VI, but we thoroughly enjoyed seeing McGregor’s performance as the younger Obi-Wan evolve throughout that trilogy.

Think of the outstanding highlights of the series and we’ll wager that the Scottish actor was usually in them.

He had those epic lightsaber fights with Darth Maul, Count Dooku, and Anakin. His scrap with Jango Fett on Kamino was pretty cool and he did a pretty good job at playing Alec Guinness.

With news that Stephen Daldry is set to direct an Obi-Wan spin-off, the rumour mill is circulating that McGregor could be picking up his lightsaber yet again.

After being nominated for a Golden Glove for Fargo, the actor have an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and said: “There’s a lot of talk and I’d be happy to play him (Obi-Wan) again but I don’t know anything more than you do.”

In a previous interview with EW, McGregor said that he’s got unfinished business with the role.

“There’s no official offer, and I haven’t met them about it or anything. But I’ve always said that I’d be happy to do it if they wanted to do it. It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes. I think they’ve got films to make until the 2020s, so I don’t think it’s going to happen soon if it happens at all,” he said.

It’s worth noting that the star of Trainspotting and Moulin Rouge is also in training.

Mmm, we feel a disturbance in the Force. Are Lucasfilm/Disney about to announce his return to the galaxy that’s far, far away, or are they using the Jedi mind trick on us?

Patience, young Padawan. Patience.
