Angry Donald Glover leaks Deadpool script online

There might be a hidden message in there.

Is there anything Donald Glover can’t do?

Well, it seems there is. The unbelievably-talented actor, rapper, singer, writer, director and stand-up had been in pre-production on a Deadpool animated series for FXX. Yes, that does sound amazing.

Now it appears that won’t be happening, and this week that Glover, and his brother Stephen had left the project. Damn.

Many presumed that it was just Glover’s workload that caused him to drop out – what with writng, directing and starring in Atlanta, shooting Solo: A Star Wars Story, and whatever music he’s working on – but he tweeted to say that isn’t the case.

He then shared a fifteen-page script, seemingly for an episode of the show, entitled ‘Finale’.

It’s genuinely hilarious tale of Deadpool having to protect the last male white rhino in the world, with references to Bitcoin, Beyonce getting bitten, and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.

As we get into it though, there are hints that it might not be what it seems. In one scenes, Deadpool is talking to himself, as he tends to do, and he starts to reflect on the show getting cancelled.

I mean, I get it. Maybe they just want to sell toys. And this style of comedy isn’t it. It’s more “Ha ha, but I’m mad”. I get it.

And then he continues:

All the writers were black. And the references were pretty black too… maybe we were alienating our white audience.

And then:

It just feels like everyone wants something different, but no one wants to do anything different to get it… I mean, I think our show would have been funny. I just wanted a place to be honest.

It’s possible that this was a script for an actual intended episode of the show – Glover previously starred in Community, and that show wasn’t afraid of some meta-commentary. But then again, is this Glover’s way to telling us what actually happened, and trashing the suits that denied the world his creative vision?

Here’s the whole script – it’s great, and you should give it a read.
