Detective spots key clues in Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s body language during trial

Much has been made of Amber Heard ‘performance’ on the stand

A man who claims to be a retired detective is going viral, for breaking down exactly what Johnny Depp and Amber Heard‘s body language on the stand suggests.

The man, who goes by @purepower34 on TikTok and has over 775k followers, has made almost half-a-dozen videos analysing footage from the defamation trial. Depp is suing Heard for $50m for an op-ed she wrote he claims infers he abused her physically and sexually. Heard is counter-suing for $100m.

One post in particular, on Depp’s testimony, has been viewed over 7.5m times.

Power thinks Depp is telling the truth.

Here’s why: “If I’m interviewing a clerk on an armed robbery, and they start mimicking the motions—like ‘First, I counted the money and then I looked over at the exit’—they’re accessing memories,” he explains.

“For the most part, they’re unconsciously doing those motions.”

Power said that a “deceptive person” won’t do this because they don’t have the memories to draw upon.

Given the groundswell of support on social media for the Pirates of the Caribbean star, it’s perhaps not surprising, that the next most popular video unpicks Heard’s testimony – unfavourably.

Power is suspicious of Heard because of her word choices and body language.

During her evidence, Heard spoke about how she was allegedly kicked by Depp and how it left her feeling embarrassed.

“Getting kicked in the back hard enough to fall to the ground, you’re not worried about being embarrassed; you’re worried about surviving,” Power said.

He also drew attention to Heard’s facial expressions, saying she does a “sad face” a lot. Depp’s lawyers have also seized upon her body language on the stand and have suggested she had put on “the performance of her life”.

“When you’re actually sad, your muscles in your face relax, and your whole face droops. That’s something very hard to duplicate,” Power said.

In 2020, Depp lost his libel case against the UK newspaper The Sun, which called him a “wife-beater.”
