The star passed away on Tuesday…

Star Wars fans can rejoice in the news that they will indeed get to see Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII.

The 60-year-old actress, who died on Tuesday, had already finished filming her scenes for the new movie according to Variety.

Fisher returned for JJ Abrams’ The Force Awakens in 2015 with her character taking up the role of a General and as filming of the new movie ended in July, her role in the upcoming movie will not be affected.

Lucasfilm confirmed to TMZ Tuesday that Fisher was “absolutely wrapped” for Star Wars: Episode VIII.

But it remains to be seen how much the death of the iconic actress will affect future sequels with Episode IX due to begin filming in 2018.

Fisher died in hospital on Tuesday following a cardiac incident during a flight last week.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy paid tribute to Fischer following her passing this week, praising her work as a barrier breaker.

“She was Princess Leia to the world but a very special friend to all of us,” she said. “She had an indomitable spirit, incredible wit, and a loving heart. Carrie also defined the female hero of our age over a generation ago. Her groundbreaking role as Princess Leia served as an inspiration of power and confidence for young girls everywhere.”
