The ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ official trailer starring Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek is here

The Queen film is finally here

Kyle Picknell

The Mr.Robot Emmy winner will star in Bryan Singer’s music drama about the British band

You’ll recognise Rami Malek instantly in the new trailer for the Queen movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, despite a moustache Freddie Mercury would be proud of.

The trailer for the new film is here and contains all the foot-stomping, hand-clapping enthusiasm for your dad’s favourite band that you would expect.

Rhapsody is officially directed by the X-Men franchise’s Bryan Singer and written by The Theory of Everything‘s Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten. The film will follow the band’s incredible rise from obscurity to superstardom and in particular Mercury’s own life as he leaves the band in pursuit of a solo career and is eventually diagnosed with AIDS.

Ben Hardy, Gwilym Lee, and Joseph Mazello play Roger Traylor, Brian May, and Jon Deacon.

There has been some controversy surrounding the film however as Singer was replaced during filming after he reportedly disappeared from the set and caused delays in the production schedule.

He has since been replaced by Dexter Fletcher, best known for biographical sports film Eddie the Eagle, despite still retaining his credit as director.

Singer has since openly criticised the original teaser for the film, writing on Twitter: “Anyone else mildly annoyed that the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ trailer features gay/bi superstar Freddie Mercury flirting with and twirling with a woman but no indication of his love of men?”

The director also took issue with 20th Century Fox’s original synopsis of the film that appeared on YouTube and may no mention of Mercury’s AIDs diagnosis.

“Dear 20th Century Fox: Yes, it was a life-threatening illness, but more specifically it was AIDS,” Fuller wrote. “From having gay sex with men. Do better.”

The film is set to hit cinemas on November 2nd.
