It stars an Oscar-winner and hails from the director of The Hurt Locker and Point Break.
Our TV movie pick for tonight (Tuesday, 12 November) is Blue Steel, the brilliant 1990 action thriller from Oscar-winning filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Point Break).
The film stars Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) as rookie cop Megan Turner.
When she kills a convenience store robber, she does not notice when psychopathic commodities trader Eugene Hunt (Ron Silver, Reversal of Fortune) takes the dead man’s gun.
“With no weapon at the crime scene, the police hold Turner accountable for killing an unarmed man. Meanwhile, Hunt uses the stolen weapon to go on a killing spree,” the plot synopsis reads.
“Turner teams up with detective Nick Mann (Clancy Brown, The Penguin) to clear her name and catch the killer. An unexpected romance complicates matters.”
Also featuring amongst its cast Elizabeth Peña (Jacob’s Ladder), Louise Fletcher (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) and Richard Jenkins (Step Brothers), Blue Steel was not a box office success upon release.
This is a real shame as its easy-to-root-for protagonist, terrific performances and twisty script make it well worth seeking out (even if its title conjures up memories of Derek Zoolander posing!).
The movie is airing tonight/tomorrow morning on Film4 at 1.55am.
It should also be available to stream on the Channel 4 website after it airs.
