Having originally aired in 2023, it is getting a second life on Netflix.
Clean Sweep, the twisty 2023 Irish crime thriller series, is rising up the Netflix TV charts after getting added to the streamer this week.
Created by Gary Tieche (Preacher), the show stars Charlene McKenna (Peaky Blinders) as Shelly, a wife and stay-at-home mother in Dublin whose husband (Barry Ward, Extra Ordinary) is a detective.
Though Shelly’s home life is already busy looking after three kids, her stress levels intensify when she is forced to commit a desperate act after a man from her past tracks her down.
Even worse, her husband is put in charge of the resulting investigation.
First released in Ireland in May 2023, Clean Sweep earned solid reviews from critics, with several singling out McKenna’s lead character and the show’s twists for praise.
You can read a sample of these positive reviews below:
Common Sense Media: “This series will sweep viewers out of their chairs with twists and thrills. Clean Sweep is filled with grit and mystery that will keep viewers on edge and not knowing who to believe or what’s true.”
The Guardian: “Clean Sweep is a serviceable, perfectly watchable Irish thriller, if you can get past its many credulity-stretching twists and its frequent excursions into the just plain silly.”
New York Post: “It offers a compelling, elaborate-puzzle murder mystery that will keep you guessing all the way through to the end of its sixth and final episode.”
What She Said: “Dense and twisty murder mystery series with a far-reaching case, a human trafficking ring, and the reopening of cold cases in order to solve a murder. Intriguing fast-paced psychological drama and police procedural in which we root for the baddie.”
Now you can check out the six-part series on Netflix, where it has already made the streamer’s top 10 TV lists in the UK and Ireland.
Clean Sweep is also streaming on the BBC iPlayer.
