BBC star Jay Blades charged with abusive behaviour

The presenter was charged with engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour

On Friday, the 54-year-old appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court where he was charged with engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, including physical and emotional abuse.

He was bailed to appear at Worcester Crown Court on October 11, West Mercia Police said.

In a statement, the force said: "Fifty-four year-old Jason Blades of Claverley in Wolverhampton has been charged with controlling and coercive behaviour.

"He appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates Court this morning (Friday 13th September) and has been bailed to appear at Worcester Crown Court on Friday 11th October."

Blades is a furniture restorer and has become a household name as the face of The Repair Shop, which sees people bring in treasured and sentimental items to be repaired and restored by experts.

The show first aired in 2017, with its 14th series due to be broadcast later this year, Sky News reports.
