BBC forced to address rumours that Danny Dyer has quit EastEnders

Setting the record straight

Danny Dyer *will* be taking a break from EastEnders, the BBC has confirmed.

The Beeb made the announcement in response to a report in The Sun newspaper which suggested there had been concerns amongst the show’s bosses that the actor was looking exhausted.

It’s unclear how long Dyer, who plays pub landlord Mick Carter in the soap, will be missing although a BBC spokesperson said the break would only be “short”. Rumours that he has ‘quit’ the soap appear to have been wide of the mark.

“Danny is on a short break from EastEnders. This was not enforced by bosses nor has he quit the show.”

Dyer joined the EastEnders cast in 2013, with his character becoming instantly popular with viewers. He also won two National Television Awards for serial drama performance while playing the role.

All in all, it’s been a hell of a few months for Dyer, who not so long ago discovered he was related to royalty when he appeared on an episode of Who Do You Think You Are?

What with that and balancing a hectic work schedule with being a parent, is it any wonder the bloke needs a bit of a break?

We hope to see him back sooner than later.
