American Horror Story series creator Ryan Murphy has said that the next season will be a crossover of season 1’s “Murder House” and season 3’s “Coven”, as well taking place in the near-distant future.

You might remember that the show’s first season was set in a haunted house in Los Angeles and the third was a gifted young girls boarding school in New Orleans – how the two will be mashed up remains to be seen.

Murphy had previously speculated at the potential crossover. “There will be characters from Murder House and characters from Coven together,” he told an audience at EW’s PopFest two years ago.

Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates will return for season eight, with it looking likely more former cast members will join the project.

“You will see so many fan favorites return that you’ll feel like it’s The Love Boat,” Murphy said last week. “It’s a very high concept. It’s a season unlike anything we’ve done because there’s a big hook to it. There’s a huge thing that happens in episode 5.”

Season 8 of American Horror Story returns to FX in September.
