Ace Ventura star John Capodice dies aged 83

Tributes have been pouring in for the Hollywood legend.

Actor John Capodice, best known for playing the role of Aguado in Ace Ventura, has sadly died at 83-years-old.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Capodice passed away on Monday at his home in upstate New York, surrounded by family.

His obituary describes the proud Italian-American as a a “devoted husband, father and grandfather” who will be “missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him.”

Born on Christmas Day in 1941, Capodice served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1964 to 1966.

After returning from military duty, he began pursuing a career on the stage and screen.

Over a career spanning thirty years, Capodice appeared in several iconic shows and movies such as Ace VenturaWall Street, Seinfeld and General Hospital.

Capodice played Carmine Cerullo from 1994-1996 in six episodes of the hit soap opera and is recognised internationally for his role as a police officer who was dismissive of Jim Carrey’s pet detective in 1994’s Ace Ventura.

His final projects before his death included roles as a cab driver in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem in 2023 and Big John in the 2024 series Conversations with Mobster. Capodice also featured as a voice over in several video game franchises and short films.

Tributes for the beloved actor have been pouring in on social media, as fans remembered his many roles over the years.

One fan wrote on X: “Rest in Peace, John Capodice. General Hospital fans will remember him as Lois’ dad, Carmine Cerullo, but I’ll remember the years when he lived near me, doted on his grandchildren, and loved to eat out at local restaurants.”

A second fan wrote: “He’s just a great guy! 😭 RIP,” while a third simply added, “RIP John Capodice.”
