The launch of Pokemon Go has put the famous Japanese franchise back on the map in a way not seen since the late 90s, so it seems like as good a time as any to release Pokemon Uranium – an all-new, entirely fan-made game that has been nine years in the making.
There have been plenty of similar projects over the years, but with an original tropical setting, online battling/trading and 150 custom-made Pokemon to be caught, Uranium surely has to be the most ambitious.

We can’t imagine that Nintendo or the Pokemon Company will be too chuffed about the non profit game being available for download, as it obviously had nothing to do with them, but the developers have already reported numerous server crashes due to the popularity of their spinoff.

We had a look at the game’s official Wiki page, which says players explore the region of Tandor in their quest to become the very best, like no one eve….you know the drill. You’ll need to collect eight Gym Badges in order to compete in the Tandor Regional Championship. It’s a template that anyone who has played the old Game Boy or Nintendo DS games will be familiar with.

You won’t need an emulator to play the game – just a windows PC able to run the file. Mac support isn’t up and running at the time of writing, but Polygon reports that it could be on the way.
There are naturally a lot of crashing issues at the moment and don’t be at all surprised if Nintendo – cuddly as they may be – come steaming at this with a takedown notice sooner rather than later. Grab the game here while you can.
