UFC fighter absolutely demolishes opponent in return from gruesome testicle injury

That took balls

Devin Powell made a successful return from rupturing his testicle at UFC Calgary.

In February, Joe Lauzon put his training partner and fellow UFC fighter, Devin Powell, in hospital.

While practising his knees on the ground, Lauzon caught Powell in the goolies, which resulted in a ruptured testicle. According to Powell, Lauzon did the damage through ‘sheer force.’ He explained that he needed to go under the knife to get a blood cot drained and ‘get the goods repaired’.

Thanks to the fine ambulatory services in Wells, ME, I am checked into the hospital and ready for surgery. Shout out to @joelauzon we’ve been practicing knees on the ground and he successfully ruptured my testicle with his sheer power. His opponent has no chance in April ? … now to get the blood clot drained and the goods repaired ???. I waited a day and a half to be seen.. word for the wise, if you hurt yourself, go get checked out. @danawhite @seanshelby how about a NY @Ufc fight coming up… this will be quite the comeback story ?. Five months later, Powell was back inside the Octagon. He was booked to face Alvaro Herrera in the UFC Calgary curtain-jerker. It was a must-win fight for both men who were entering off the back of two-fight skids.

Early on, it looked like Herrera was going to get his hand raised. Powell was punished for two failed takedown attempts. The first time he tried it, he was given a body kick for his troubles. The second time, a body shot saw him drop to the canvas.

However, no sooner was Powell back on his feet than he stunned Herrera with a seismic body kick. A couple seconds later, he landed another. The second kick sent Herrera crumbling to the mat. Powell pounced on him and kept firing punches until Marc Goddard awarded him the first round KO victory at the 1:52 mark.

Powell, who improved to 9-3 (1-2 UFC) with the win, was in good spirits after the fight.

“It’s been 13 months. I train six days a week, every single day, double sessions. I begged for this fight. He cracked me. The kid fights like an animal. I landed a shot that I like a lot, and I’m so thankful to get the finish.

“I almost never have a strategy. It’s probably stupid. But we wanted to take him down because we knew how nasty he is. He punched me in the stomach once and my guts almost went out of my body. But I got it done on my feet.”

The result saw Herrera (9-6, 1-3 UFC) suffer a third straight loss. The defeat will likely result in him receiving his pink slip.
