Jeremy Clarkson reveals what he first thought when he met Hammond and May

Wil Jones

“We found James May on a street corner in Bath, drinking meths and rambling at passers-by.”

Jeremy Clarkson to Amazon this month, with a new The Grand Tour Special special that is wonderfully titled A Massive Hunt.

Ahead of the special, we caught up with Jeremy Clarkson to find out what he really thinks of his Grand Tour co-stars Richard Hammond and James May.

Clarkson tells the story of meeting Hammond and May for the first time, and what he really thought of them. We think he might have embellished the stories a little – we are pretty sure that James May wasn’t found rambling on a street corner – but it always fun to hear Jeremy Clarkson talk trash about his colleagues.

He also tells us about Richard Hammond’s scary crashes, and if he ever gets cautious doing the show’s stunts.

The official synopsis for The Grand Tour presents: A Massive Hunt reads:

Following their perilous watery escapades in the Mekong, the intrepid trio find themselves back on four wheels for their latest adventure on the exotic islands of Reunion and Madagascar. Armed with three sports cars, Richard, James and Jeremy believe they are in for a cushy road trip and fun escapades as they arrive in Reunion and race on the world’s most expensive piece of tarmac, a jaw dropping ring road built out in the sea. But a bizarre challenge from Mr Wilman propels them across the ocean to Madagascar, where they must tackle the toughest road in the world, in some of the most extremely modded cars they have ever built, in order to complete one of their toughest quests to date. The whole gruelling adventure ends in an explosive climax.

And if you want more Grant Tour interviews, last month we also spoke with James May, about his new Amazon cooking show.

The Grand Tour presents: A Massive Hunt will launch Friday 18th December on Amazon Prime Video.
