Now you too can be an Agent of Shield

Marvel actor Elizabeth Henstridge, most known for her portrayal of Jemma Simmons on the critically acclaimed Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D, has shared an iPhone hack that lets you listen to conversations taking place up to 15 meters away.

Taking to TikTok, where she’s currently amassed just under 400k followers, Henstridge captioned the video with: “When someone explains the ear button on your iPhone means you can listen to conversations happening by your phone from 15 metres away.”

@elizabeth_henstridge so basically we’re all spies now?! Whaaaa? #livelisten #amitheonlyone who didn’t know?! ?? #actorsoftiktok ♬ original sound – Alex and Jon

On the manufacturer’s website, the description for the feature reads like a gadget from a Bond film.

It says: “Live Listen can help you hear a conversation in a noisy room or hear someone speaking across the room.

“With Live Listen, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch can act like a microphone that sends sound to your AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max or Powerbeats Pro.”

Though AirPods are obviously the noted headphones, this feature will work with any wireless earphones.

To activate the feature, follow these instructions – and don’t worry – for any boomers out there, we will take it nice and slow:

  • Go to ‘Settings’
  • From here go to ‘Control Centre’
  • Next to the icon for hearing devices, there should be a green plus icon
  • Press said icon and tap settings to confirm the changes.

From here, you need to connect your headphones to your device and whip up the control centre by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.

An ear icon should appear, tap that and then when promoted, tap ‘listen live’. All you have to do then is place your phone close to the person you want to listen to.

TikTok users are understandably stunned by the revelation.

One user wrote: “Extendable ears? We owe Fred and George credit for this one.”

“Beforehand you need to decide if you really want to hear what is being said,” another added.

A third touched on the spy-like quality of the feature: “A whole messy trail of broken marriages and relationships in 3, 2, 1…”

With this news, go out into the world and live your 007 fantasy but be sure to use your newfound power for good.
