Dark Souls III (Playstation 4, Xbox One * PC)
The Dark Souls games are notorious for their outrageous difficulty, but there's a reason so many gamers keep coming back to have their characters brutalised. A beautiful and expansive game, rich in detail and reward, Dark Souls III is well worth losing the best part of 60 hours to.
Stephen’s Sausage Roll (PC, Mac & Linux)
Yet another puzzle game that looks like it was knocked up by a 12-year-old in an ICT class, Stephen's Sausage Roll is a fiendishly addictive game that tasks you with rolling sausages around until they're evenly cooked on grills placed around different levels. Sounds simple enough, but watch time fly as you lose yourself in head-scratching navigation tests.
Telepaint (iOS)
More mobile puzzle goodness with Telepaint. A bizarre brainteaser that has you controlling walking buckets of paint that can teleport. Any attempts to write up how good it is do a disservice to how off-the-wall and fun this game can be. It has a funky little soundtrack to pass the commute with as well.
DiRT RALLY (Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC)
A spiritual successor to the Colin McRae rally games of yesteryear, DiRT RALLY is a real throwback to driving games of the late '90s and early 2000s, where you could spend ages nailing perfect racing lines, making barnstorming runs to reach the top of leaderboards. Go get.
Super Arc Light (Android & iOS)
Don't be fooled by the simple screenshot, Super Arc Light is one of the deepest games around at the moment. An old-school shooter in the style of Asteroids and Geometry Wars, it's a frenetic, thumb-swiping blast to play.
Shadow Bug (iOS)
A beautifully designed platform game, Shadow Bug gives you a crafty insect ninja to control as you make your way through an intricately-built evil factory. The current indie darling has been getting rave reviews for its wonderful art design and involving story. Not bad for a game you can play one-handed.
Pokken Tournament (Wii U)
Pokken Tournament has been out for nearly a month now, but Wii U users have been singing its praises non-stop - so it's making our list. Putting the battle back into "Pokemon battles", Bandi-Namco has thoughtfully "borrowed" a few tips from its Tekken series to make a brand new fighting game featuring your favourite Pokemon. Mewtwo is a right git to fight.
