The car’s built-in camera caught him out

A Louisiana man has been outsmarted by a Tesla after he claimed the car hit him outside a busy gas station before fleeing the scene.

Little did he know, the incident – which took place on September 3 – was recorded by the vehicle’s in-built camera, proving that the whole thing was faked.

47-year-old Arthur Bates Jr told authorities that the Elon Musk-developed car reversed into him, knocking him to the ground and causing injury to his back, leg and neck.

After calling 911, a fire truck and ambulance were dispatched to the scene but when Slidell Police Department took a closer look into the incident, it quickly became apparent that things were amiss.

After locating the car’s owner, the driver explained that Bates purposely jumped in front of the reversing car – and viewing the Tesla’s camera footage proved that he was right. Bates had made the whole thing up.
