The boy wrote to Swindon, explaining that his mum has ‘no money for food’ and donated 26p to the club

Swindon Town have launched a social media campaign to find a six-year-old boy who wrote a letter to his favourite player at the club, Harry McKirdy.

The young fan, who is only known as Joe, wrote an emotional letter to the League Two side where he explained that he couldn’t get to games as his mum has “no money for food” but left no return address on the letter.

Attached to the written note was also 26p which was to go to his idol, McKirdy. The letter said: “Mummy doesn’t have any money to come to Swindon games because she has no money for food and has to pay for my dinner at school.

“I like Swindon Town, I will come one day.”

The letter has since sparked a nationwide hunt to find Joe and his family, with the Robins’ latest update on Wednesday morning confirming they were still looking for the six-year-old.

They tweeted: “We would like to thank everyone who has reached out in our search for Joe.

“We are currently still searching for Joe and his family and, once we have made contact, we will be ensuring that they get to a game in style and are well looked after by the club.”

A JustGiving page has been set up in order to raise enough money for Joe and his family to attend a game at the County Ground, whilst Joe’s favourite player McKirdy posted a plea on his Instagram to help him to get into contact with with Joe and his family.

He posted: “Help us find little Joe please! We’d love to help him out & get him to some games!”
