Yaya Touré is keen on a return to his former club

His time at Man City is coming to an end

He’ll be leaving Man City this summer

After nine years at Manchester City, Yaya Touré will be leaving the club this summer as a life-long legend. The midfielder has been the key man in leading City to numerous trophies over the past decade, and was given the warm farewell he deserved after his final home game against Brighton at the weekend.

There are plenty of possible destinations for his next move, including Everton, but Touré seems more keen on a move back to Barcelona, where he first played under Pep Guardiola. And who can blame him?

It remains to be seen whether Barça would want him back, given his gradual loss of dynamism, but if he were happy to deputise for Sergio Busquets, it could work.

Speaking to El Larguero after the City vs Brighton game, Touré said “I would head back to Barcelona.”

“If Barcelona calls me, I will go for sure, they are the best team.

“I miss [Lionel] Messi and [Andrés] Iniesta. Barcelona have been the most important team of my life. They have given me humility, experience and the knowledge of how to behave on the field.”

Iniesta will of course be leaving Barcelona after this season, but Touré hinted that the pair could reunite in Asia. “He is a formidable person. I need to send him a message to see if we will see each other in China or wherever”, Touré said.
