WWE wrestler Drew McIntyre calls out Steven Gerrard over move to Aston Villa from Rangers

WWE superstar Drew McIntyre has jokingly told Steven Gerrard that he'll turn up at his door after he left Rangers to become Aston Villa manager. The former Liverpool and England captain was confirmed as Villa's new boss on Thursday (11 November), replacing Dean Smith following his sacking on Sunday 7th November. Gerrard leaves Ibrox after three-and-a-half-years in charge, where he guided Rangers to their first title in a decade and the last 16 of the Europa League last term. His departure from the club will understandably disappoint the Rangers supporters, with his decision also likely to anger some fans - with McIntyre joking that he knows exactly how he feels about the situation. Speaking ahead of a WWE tour event in Manchester on Wednesday evening, McIntyre explained his feelings on the move. "We're doing awesome," he told BirminghamLive. "I'd love to say we're doing as well as last year but it's kind of hard when we didn't lose a league game last year. We've dropped a game, drawn a couple of games, but we're still killing it. We're still ahead of where I thought we would be at this point." McIntyre then joked: "The only thing I have to say is Gerrard better stick around and not be leaving to Aston Villa or something or I will be showing up at his door." "He's done an amazing job at Rangers. I remember being asked the question what I think about him coming in when it initially happened and I said it's what we need, somebody with his level of passion, somebody who is going to make them play for the jersey, which is something you should be doing if you play for a club like Rangers but some of the players weren't," he said. "It took a couple of years, we relied on [Alfredo] Morelos a long time. Finally in the last couple of seasons, everything started dropping into place and the team started to come together, he's got things set the way we need them."
